CHANGES ... A Bridge to Community

HeartStream's program for prisoners interrupts the cycle of recidivism by addressing under-lying causes of criminal behavior, such as the inability to experience authentic empathy and develop healthy relationships with others. Within a community of peers, prisoners begin to rebuild their lives by taking responsibility for their past actions and creating a new future. Men and women step out of a convict mindset and decide to become productive while both in prison and upon release. Individuals move from an ambivalent attitude toward change to a state of readiness to alter their lives for the better.

CHANGES maximizes the impact of the many fine educational, training and rehabilitation programs that already exist. As participants gain increased self-awareness, they acquire internal motivation to engage more fully in other programs.

CHANGES may be delivered by HeartStream staff or training and licensing can be provided so that institutional staff are equipped to facilitate theworkshop.
